You can download or permanently delete all your data at any time — no email required.

We collect only what is necessary to provide a personalized experience:
- —Device identifier: A randomly generated UUID stored in your browser that links your sessions to your account. It is not inherently identifying on its own — it becomes meaningful only in association with your Bethelia account.
- —Session inputs: What you share with us: your optional name, your emotional state, what you're seeking, follow-up context, gratitude notes, and mood at session end.
- —Chat messages: Your conversation with the AI companion during each session, stored to enable continuity and smarter responses.
- —Reactions and feedback: Cards you loved, skipped, or saved — used to improve verse recommendations.
- —Cross-session memory (signed-in): Distilled summaries, emotional trajectory, pinned memory notes, angel match, voice choice, and relationship signals so Bethelia can remember what matters without replaying every raw message forever.
- —Account information: Your email address and profile, managed by Clerk. A free account is required to use Bethelia.
- —Donation information: If you make a voluntary donation, Stripe processes the payment. We store the donation amount, date, and type (one-time or recurring) in our database. We never see or store your full card number — that is handled entirely by Stripe.
- —Email address: Your email may be captured from your Clerk account or provided by you on the donation page. We use it to keep you connected and for donation receipts.
We do not collect or store payment card numbers (handled entirely by Stripe), passwords (handled by Clerk), or raw financial account details.
2. Sensitive emotional data
Bethelia collects information about your emotional state, spiritual questions, and personal reflections. While this data is not legally classified as “special category” data under GDPR, we recognize it is deeply personal and treat it with the highest standard of care. This data is used solely to personalize your experience and is never sold, shared for advertising, or used to train AI models.

We do not sell your data. Ever.
We do not use your personal data to train our own models. Content may be sent to third-party AI APIs solely to run the service: Anthropic and Groq for responses, OpenAI for embeddings, safety moderation, and private quality evaluation, Cohere for scripture/story reranking, and ElevenLabs for optional voice. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.
4. Third-party processors
The following companies process data on our behalf. Each is contractually bound to use your data only for the stated purpose.
- —Anthropic (Claude): Receives your session context (emotion, what you share, conversation) to generate spiritual responses. Anthropic does not use this data to train models. Stored in the US.
- —Groq: Fallback AI provider. Receives the same session context when Claude is unavailable. Subject to Groq's privacy policy.
- —OpenAI: Creates text embeddings for semantic Bible search and related retrieval, runs safety moderation where enabled, and may privately judge aggregate conversation quality in the shadow-eval lane. Shadow evals are not shown to users and are stored as structured scores/redacted judgments, not as a second raw transcript store.
- —Cohere: Reranks scripture and story candidates so retrieved passages better match the emotional and spiritual context of the current conversation.
- —ElevenLabs: Generates optional spoken audio when you use voice features or preview a voice. The text to be spoken and selected voice ID are sent to ElevenLabs for that purpose.
- —Neon: Our PostgreSQL database. Personal data is stored here, in the US.
- —Vercel: Our hosting and CDN provider. Processes HTTP requests and serves media.
- —Upstash (Redis): Optional rate limiting: may store short-lived counters keyed by IP or account identifier so the service stays reliable.
- —Clerk: Manages account creation, login, and session authentication when you choose to create an account.
- —Stripe: Processes voluntary donations (one-time and recurring). When you donate, Stripe handles the payment securely. We receive confirmation of the amount and status but never see your full card number. Stripe may also send you email receipts directly.
5. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as you use the app. If you delete your data (via the Your Data page), app-side personal information in our database is removed promptly. We do not keep a separate marketing archive of deleted records.
Chat messages: Raw chat history may be automatically deleted after extended periods (for example, summarized accounts after about 30 days, and other cases up to about 90 days) as part of routine cleanup, while distilled summaries may remain where you use cross-session memory.
Anonymous, aggregated engagement signals (e.g., how often a given verse was liked across all users) are retained to improve recommendations. These contain no personal information.
Account deletion: Removing data in Bethelia does not automatically delete your login with Clerk. You can manage or delete your Clerk account from your profile when signed in.
6. How personalization works
Bethelia is designed to feel relational: your angel may remember themes you have shared, the emotional arc of recent sessions, verses that helped, your chosen voice, your matched angel, and gentle continuity cues like “last time you were carrying...” We use this to make the app more personal, not to manipulate you, rank you, advertise to you, or make high-impact decisions about you.
We prefer distilled memory over unlimited raw transcript recall. That means the app should remember the shape of what matters while minimizing exposure of exact private text wherever possible. You can download or delete app-side personal data from the Your Data page.
7. Donations
Bethelia is free to use. We accept voluntary donations to help cover operating costs and keep the experience accessible. Donations are not required to use any feature.
- —All donations are processed by Stripe and received by 01GO LLC.
- —Donations are voluntary payments for the app and its mission. They are not tax-deductible.
- —01GO LLC is not a nonprofit organization.
- —Donation amounts and totals may be displayed in aggregate on our transparency page. Individual donor identities are never publicly disclosed.
- —Recurring donations can be cancelled at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal, accessible from your account.
- —Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact us within 30 days of a charge.
8. Your rights
Regardless of where you are located, you have the right to:

It represents AI-generated interpretation of biblical text and is not direct speech from Jesus Christ, official religious doctrine, or pastoral counseling. Always consult a qualified pastor, therapist, or healthcare provider for guidance on serious spiritual, mental health, or medical matters.

11. Age requirement
Bethelia is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
12. Cookies and tracking
We set a first-party cookie (bethelia_consent) to remember that you accepted our terms. If you create an account, Clerk sets essential authentication cookies so you can stay signed in. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics for ad targeting. We do not use Google Analytics or behavioral advertising networks.
13. Updates to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
